Cochabamba city is a fast growing center with a population of approximately 300,000.The city is located in the Andean region of Bolivia, at an elevation of about 2,600 meters above sea level. It is located in a large valley, bordered on the northern side by sleep mountains, rising up to an elevation of 4,500 meters. The northern part of the city is located on the alluvial fans at the foot of the mountains. Due to the high-intensity rainfall in the period November-January, the mountain area is subjected to landslides and soil erosion, and the city itself occasionally suffers from flashfloods on the alluvial fans. These processes affect the local farmers, and also hinder the expansion of the city.
