The hemicellulose content decreased with acid treatment from
16.3 ± 3.0% in the untreated CAB to 5.3 ± 0.0% after treatment with
0.2 mol/L acid, which was an expected result because the pretreatment
step with dilute acid is targeted at solubilizing the hemicellulose
present in lignocellulosic material such that the cost
associated with purchasing hemicellulase enzymes for that purpose
can be minimized
