Outcome
This case was a 1.5 year-old non-healing leg ulcer, with a history of recurrent bacterial infection. At baseline, the wound was static, exuding moderately, and biofilm was suspected.
The patient was changed over to a wound management regimen of daily cleansing and dressing changes with AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, covered by an absorbent secondary dressing and reduced compression bandages.
Within a week, the patient’s pain level decreased from 9 to 5. After two weeks, her pain level further decreased to 1, and dressing frequency was reduced from daily to twice per week. After 4 weeks, significant progress towards healing was made: the wound size had decreased and exudate level had decreased.
AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing contributed to effective exudate and bacterial burden management, resulting in better pain management and reduced dressing changes. This contributed to improved quality of life for the patient, and reduced resources required from district nursing services.
AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing supported progression towards healing in this static, extremely painful wound which was not responsive to systemic antibiotics. The patient reported high levels of satisfaction with AQUACELTM Ag+ dressing, and the wound progressed to show further positive signs of healing after the 4-week evaluation.
