UNESCO helps Ayutthaya
UNESCO is working with local authorities yo develop a plan to counter floods, especially those which threaten ancient attractions in Ayuttaya, the Fine Arts Department announced on May 31.
Fine Arts Office director Methandol Wijakkana said experts from UNESCO have been sent to Ayuttaya to work with the municipality, civil engineers, city planners and tourism officials to fight floods that threaten ancient attractions in and around province.
Almost 200 ancient sites were damaged in the 2011 floods. Of these, only about 90 have been repaired and several remain in danger of collapse.
