To better refine our questions to growers and learn abouttheir current methods of fire blight diagnosis in orchards, aninterview was first conducted with an apple grower in theHudson Valley, NY and two regional tree fruit extension specialistsin May, 2019. To confirm the accuracy and time neededfor a grower to receive results from a detection assay fromthe Tree Fruit Pathology lab at Cornell AgriTech, we sent aputative fire blight-infected sample to this laboratory for diagnosis. In addition, we interviewed a scientist working in TreeFruit Pathology lab at Cornell AgriTech to confirm the costsand timing of lab testing, and to learn about the frequency ofvisual misdiagnosis in fire blight samples
