In this work, all experiments were done in ambient temperature
(about 42 ◦C). At beginning of operation, water droplets vaporized
when inlet air stream goes into the mixing chamber of the scrubber
and encounter with atomized water droplet. After this transient
operation, vapor–liquid equilibrium reached and results in a constant
value for air and water temperature. This value remains
constant during experimental tests with narrow changes due to
ambient temperature variation.
For reduction of water surface tension and facilitation of PVC
particles penetration in to water droplets, a few amount of
washing-up liquid was added to water.
The concentration of the inlet and outlet particles has been
measured by means of a special particle analyzer GRIMM DUST
checkTM 1.100 (Fig. 1). This analyzer has the capability of measuring
the concentration of particles with diameters ranging from 0.5
up to 20m. The mentioned analyzer has two channels, in that it
can measure the concentration of two types of particles simultaneously.
For instance, both concentrations of 0.5m particles and
1m particles can be measured at the same time by the analyzer.
The adjustable operational parameters in this study are water
flow rate and inlet air flow rate. In the experimental tests in a constant
inlet air flow rate, water flow rate was controlled by means
of a rotameter so that the outlet particulate concentration became
zero or minimum. It should be noted that in each experimental test,
the analyzer was adjusted for the desired two particle sizes. This
procedure was repeated for the other particle sizes and air flow
rates as well.
