The diet involves eating a lot of grapefruit. Dieters typically eat half a grapefruit at breakfast, at lunch, and again at dinner. They also drink at least one glass of grapefruit juice at each meal. The diet allows for green vegetables, eggs, meat, and coffee, in addition to lots of water. The "foods to avoid" list includes potatoes, beans, and bread. In all, no more than 1,000 calories are consumed per day. If the plan is followed correctly, dieters are supposed to lose ten pounds in about two weeks.
