Produced in a matter of weeks, the benefit volumes published by DC and
Image/Chaos!/Dark Horse “undoubtedly enjoyed the smoothest ride in the marketplace,”
reported Michael Dean in a 9/11 –themed issue of the Comics Journal. “Due
to DC’s considerable clout and because it was perceived as a definitive joint comicsindustry
effort,” the two books were “put together with the cost-free cooperation of
every participant, including printer Quebecor World Montreal and suppliers Sun
Chemical Inc., UPM-Kymmene, and Kruger.” According to Dean, the Dark Horse
volume raised roughly $230,000 out of a print run of forty thousand copies. He does
not provide figures for the DC book
