This line of argument could be extended to the more prevalent litter fungal genera occurring in the litter of different tree species in the present study such as Alternaria, Chaetomium, Drechslera and Fusarium, Bartalinia and Curvularia as these fungi utilize furaldehydes as carbon source (Govinda Rajulu et al. 2014); interestingly, the last two fungi also produce thermotolerant spores (Suryanarayanan et al. 2011b).
