The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Is Establishing an Embassy in Thailand (03/05/2006)
Although maintaining diplomatic relations with Thailand since 1982, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will only now have an ambassador in residence in Thailand.
The Cabinet on May 2 approved the establishment of an embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Thailand as proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Secretariat to the Cabinet will inform the Office of the Principal Secretary to His Majesty the King accordingly.
The two countries established diplomatic relations on 27 August 1982. Thailand has assigned the Royal Thai Embassy in Brasilia to be in charge of Venezuela, while the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Kuala Lumpur has its authority extended to Thailand.
As Venezuela is an important country in Latin America, rich in petroleum resources, with the sixth largest reserves in the world, playing a distinctive role in international politics, and as a significant member of the Andean Community and South America Common Market, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deems it appropriate to tighten relations with that country, by means of establishing an embassy responsible for Thailand in particular. The request also showed the significance Venezuela attached to Thailand as a major country in the region.
