General Prayuth staged a coup on 22 May after which the military took full control of the country. In addition to the earlier announced martial law, a curfew remains in place in Thailand from 12 midnight to 4am (from 10pm to 5am earlier). Gen Prayuth has since received royal consent to be the head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and he has also assumed the powers of premiership. He appointed several high-ranking military officers to assume various functions of government similar to that of deputy prime ministers
