Fortunately, however, it appears that the commitment of survivors can be main-tained through the careful development and implementation of a reduction strategy. The research findings reviewed above suggest that perceptions of fairness in the treatment of both victims and survivors play an important role in determining commitment. Strategies designed to enhance perceptions of fairness, therefore, are more likely to resuIt in long-term success (see Cameron, 1994: Ford & Perrewe, 1993).
