While the population increased by 15% during this period, ownership levels of durable
goods among household increased at higher levels. In Table 2 we present the growth in
ownership of domestic electric apparels for all income groups and separated by income
groups. We observe a large increase in the ownership of drier machines (173%), freezers
(211%) and dishwasher machines (275%), and an even higher increase arising in the lower
income groups. These trends lead consequently to a more intense consumption pattern
based on industrial goods and, consequently, with higher energy intensity
