Vast areas of hydric soils have been impacted by
agricultural conversion and drainage. Restoring
degraded hydric soils and ecosystems has a high
potential for sequestrating soil carbon. Most degraded
soils have lost a large fraction of the antecedent SOC pool, which can be restored through adopting judicious
land use practices. Cultivation has been
suggested to be the most important factor in soil
carbon loss (Lal et al. 2004).
