10. Biotechnological approaches for e-waste treatment
Biitechnological approaches such as hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy considered a viable options for developing environment friendly process from the e-waste streams with the aid of
living organisms. E-waste is considered as a secondary source of
metals, so bioleaching is aviable option to recover and reuse the
metals from WEEE. Cyanogenic organisms like Pseudomonas plecoglossicida (P. plecoglossicida), Pseudomonas fluorescens (P. fluorescens) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) and Chromobacter sp. have profound applications in bioleaching of gold from
ores/e-waste. Having six enzymes machinery for HCN production
along with the machinery for cyanide detoxification through β-cyanoalanine synthase under minimal growth conditions, Chromobacterium violaceum bacterium has a significant role in gold leaching from e-waste [44].
