KANCHANABURI - A gang of six young men assaulted two other men they wrongly believed were from a rival group, killing one of their victims, police said on Tuesday.
The assault was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras outside a roadside restaurant in Kanchanaburi's Muang district about 4am on Sunday.
The video shows the attackers repeatedly punching and kicking one of the victims, and hitting him with a stick and garden ornament from nearby. The victim, 19-year-old Kritsada "Earth" Ornnom, had no chance to fight back, and lay motionless on the ground as the thugs left the area.
Kritsada died from his injuries on the way to hospital.
His companion Peerapong "Nick" Ruangchan, 22, was also beaten up, but was able to escape.
The video also clearly shows one of the attackers carrying a firearm.
Pol Col Pisut Sukrasorn, chief of the Muang police station, said the two victims were friends. They and a woman were talking on the phone when the six men approached them.
On Tuesday, police arrested two of the six punks. They were named as Paisarn, 20, and Tinha, 21.
According to investigators, one of the six men asked Earth whether he had been involved in a fight with the group in the past. The teenager said no, but they refused to listen and attacked him.
Pol Col Pisut said police will hunt down the other four men who were still on the run. Their faces were clearly visible in the CCTV footage.
