The large sample, the pre- and post-test design of the study and the fortuitously stable
nature of the environment during the transformational leadership development
intervention provide strong support for the notion that not only is transformational
leadership capacity beneficial to an organization, it also can be developed and
increased. The ability to generalize the results may be limited by the fact that the study
is from a single industry; however, the results should be of interest to those seeking to
develop the leadership capacity of individuals and/or organizations. Additional
studies from a variety of industries with large numbers of participants will be helpful
in more fully understanding the ways in which contingent reward and
transformational leadership behaviors can best be developed and deployed in
organizational settings.
