Although tilapia is one of the important
fisheries in Thailand with the potential for export, the
quality and safety of the product need to be ensured in
domestic and international markets (ACFS, 2004).
Various problems such as infection, contamination
with toxins, improper waste product disposal and
improper management practices still remain,
especially in the case of intensive tilapia farming,
adversely affecting the potential revenue generated by
this resource. Contamination with harmful chemicals
through aquaculture feed is an especially important
issue for safe aquaculture production, due to the
stricter current standards for food safety (ACFS, 2004).
