Manz and Neck (2007) noted that self-leadership theory originated from two
concepts of psychology: social cognitive theory and intrinsic motivation theory (p. 5).
Social cognitive theory places emphasis on self-influence, self-regulation, and self control (p. 5). Manz and Neck found that "social cognitive theory stresses the importance
of our perceptions of our own effectiveness or potential to be effective" (p. 5).
