Student earns letter praise
A young student in the remote omkoi district of Chiangmai is being praised for her honesty after she told school heads she wanted time off to help her family. Her hand-written letter, shared by the family website momypedia, is addressed to teachers. In the letter, Jitra Jaikla said she needed to take a few days off school to help her family harvest Hed Thob of puff ball mushrooms. The mushrooms can fetch a high price, up to 400 baht a kilogramme.
She said the would return to class if she finished collecting the mushrooms in the three days requested. She also asked teachers to let her know via her classmates if they have assigned any homework. Many netizenns said the letter shows Jitra cares for her class and is also willing to help her family shows the girl is honest. Some said many students these days no longer know how to write a letter.
Many also said the letter shows how rural people live close to nature. They said the teachers should consider integrating mushroom collection as part of the school's extra-curric-ula activities.
