If you are the type of negotiator who prefers amiable negotiation tactics over lowballing, then you still may want to know the other side's resistance point for to reasons. First, the other party may try to lowball you. Knowing the party's resistance point will give you the information and confidence to counter a lowball tactic. Second, many negotiators consider a fair deal to be one that fall halfway between the two parties' resisitance point. To find the halfway point, you need to know both resistance points. Since experienced negotiators consider their true resistsnce point to be confidential information, you will most likely have to make a best guess about how far you can push the other party before seriously risking impasse or generating ill will.
