The study region is large and extremely heterogeneous. All the aspects, which were included in the analysis, display a great diversity. The vulnerability assessment showed clearly, that the basins in South Asia (Indus and GBM) are far more vulnerable than the other eight investigated basins. The other basins are roughly at the same level of vulnerability, but their vulnerability profiles differ substantially. Thee Chinese basins and the Red River are particularly vulnerable to environmental factors. The weak points of Irrawaddy and Salween are in the hazards and economic development, whereas the are in the hazards and economic development, whereas the former is a challenge to Mekong as wall. Only Indus and Yellow River suffer from considerable water scarcity. The other basins besides Ganges and GBM are relatively well-off with the social matters.
