To whom do these standards apply?
These standards apply to all who trade (buy, sell or process) Fairtrade certified products, up
to the point where the product is in its final packaging. In other words this means that within
this scope all operators who take legal ownership of Fairtrade certified products must be
audited and certified against these standards. This can vary among products and supplychains. In fresh fruit for example, producers often label and package the product at the
producers’ site. Since tracking of the Fairtrade Price and Premium payment is a core part of
the GTS it is therefore necessary to specify that in addition to the above, all Fairtrade payers
(being responsible for paying the Fairtrade Price and Fairtrade Premium) and conveyors1
(receiving or handling the Fairtrade price and Fairtrade Premium) must comply with this
standard.
