Beading Techniques
There are four beading techniques – canvas-stitching technique, relief threedimensional
technique, beading on velvet base technique and threading technique.
Canvas stitching technique involves stitching beads either singly or more than one at a
time on a base. For relief three-dimensional technique, a number of beads are strung
up and stitched similarly onto a base at intervals. For velvet base technique, individual
beads are stitched on velvet. Threading technique, also known as beadweaving is one
of the most difficult techniques as there is no grid to provide an overall framework.
Today, penelope canvas (kain urat) is used for stitching as it has grids on a square
canvas for ease of sewing
