1.0 PURPOSE
This Dormitory Standard (“Standard”) supplements the Dormitory and Dining
section of the Apple Supplier Code of Conduct (the “Code”) by providing clarity
regarding the operation and maintenance of Supplier provided Dormitory facilities.
Apple Suppliers must meet this Standard in order to be in compliance with the
Code.
2.0 SCOPE
This Standard applies to all Apple Suppliers, their subcontractors and next tier
suppliers (each a “Supplier,” collectively, “Suppliers”).
3.0 SUPPLIER CODE OF CONDUCT REQUIRMENT
Worker dormitories provided by the Supplier or a third party agency shall be clean
and safe and provide adequate emergency egress, adequate heat and ventilation,
reasonable personal space, and reasonable entry and exit privileges.
4.0 AUDITABLE STANDARD
Dormitories
4.1 Dormitory facilities shall meet all applicable laws and regulations
and shall have all relevant official permits related to health, safety
and security; including fire protection, sanitation, electrical,
mechanical and structural safety.
4.2 Dormitory sleeping rooms shall use double-deck or single beds only.
Triple-deck bunk beds are prohibited. Sharing beds is prohibited
except within individual family accommodations.
4.3 Dormitory sleeping rooms shall offer not less than two square
meters per occupant. Apple recommends, but does not require, that
accomodations offer more than 2.5 square meters per occupant.
4.4 Separate sleeping accomodations shall be provided for each sex. If
sleeping accommodations for men and women are in the same
building, they shall be separated by a solid wall from floor to ceiling.
4.5 Supplier shall ensure that no more than 12 individuals occupy one
Dormitory sleeping room. Apple recommends, but does not require,
no more than eight occupants per sleeping room.
4.6 Dormitory sleeping rooms shall have adequate and private
arrangements for storing clothing (e.g. personal closets or bins) as
