Stroke is a leading cause of disability and enormous financial burden. Recognition of stroke risk factors Is important to reduce the incidence of recurrent stroke. Study in stroke patients family at the department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Khon Kaen Hospital from April to September 2004, duration 6 months. The objective of this study is to evaluate stroke risk factor recognition among stroke patients family. A descriptive study was conducted by using questionnaire asked for 12 stroke risk factor knowledge check lists, A total of 138 stroke patients family took part in this study. Mean age was 39.17 years. There were 18 men and 120 women. Correct stroke risk factor knowledge check lists less than 5, 5 - 8, 9 - 12 were 45.56%, 34.78% and 19.57 % Respectively. Regarding of the participants 54.55 % stopped smoking, 50% stopped alcohol drinking and 43.48% reduced high fat diet conclusion, most stroke patients family have little Knowledge about stroke risk Factors. More research in needed to find out the better information transfer method to improve their knowledge
