David Sze-kwan WONG
Photo DAVID WONGDavid started with the bass trombone at the age of 14. By 18, he has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra and the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the process also an active chamber musician and soloist, representing Singapore in chamber music at various International Music Festivals. At the same time obtaining the Licentiate Diploma from UK’s Royal Schools of Music while also achieving distinctions in academics.
In 1992 David was awarded the Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarship and pursued his degree at the New England Conservatory of Music, in Boston, USA, under John SWALLOW and Scott HARTMAN. During which he obtained fellowships and full scholarships to attend the prestigious Pacific Music Festival in Japan, Aspen Music Festival in USA and Tanglewood Music Festival in USA. Achievements also include capturing top prizes in solo and chamber competitions.
After performing with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for 10 years, David is currently performing and teaching actively. His teaching responsibilities include the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, Singapore Armed Forces Bands, Bansomdej Chaoprayarajabaht University (Thailand), and yearly workshops in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
Recent performances include solo concertos in Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and Singapore. Including the opening concert of the 2012 APBDA in Singapore. Upcoming concerto performances include the Royal Thai Navy Band in May 2015.
David will lead a delegation representing the Singapore Trombone Society to appear and be featured in SliderAsia
