American woman driver causes Sunday chaos
A 29-year-old American woman took a Sunday drive in Pattaya yesterday in her white Toyota Innova that went from bad to worse.
She began by driving the wrong way down Soi Siam Country Club in East Pattaya and clipped a motorbike.
She should have stopped right there but she didn't.
Instead she continued to Sukhumvit Road and, perhaps thinking she was still in the US, she started driving south on the wrong side of the road.
What followed was 30 minutes of chaos as she collided with 12 other vehicles with police pursuing her on the way.
She still wouldn't stop and police finally had to shoot out her tyres.
Then, of course, she refused to get out of her car, forcing police to break the front passenger window to detain her, according to local media.
Surrounded by an angry mob of damaged-car owner, she had to be whisked away by police to the Pattaya police station.
Not surprisingly, she initially refused to answer any questions from authorities, but when faced with time in jail she had a change of heart.
The Pattaya One news website reports that she was assessed a heavy traffic fine and agreed to pay for all the damage she caused in exchange for not being jailed. Two people were slightly injured during the Sunday drive.
