In summary, the current literature on the CFO’s role and the role of management accountants
has mostly focused on larger companies. With the exception of Becker et al. (2011), none of
these studies have investigated family influence or the FB status of the firms examined.
Thus, it can be concluded that the findings of these studies mainly hold true for NFBs,
namely that the CFO’s role has evolved to a considerable degree towards managing more
strategic tasks. However, the core of the CFO’s role is still composed of traditional financial
management tasks.
