smallpox is the only infectious disease which has been eradicated:in 1980 it was announced
that the virus had been globally eliminated. Today it only exists as a research specimen in two locked vaults in Russia and The US. AFter the success of the smallpox eradication programme, the World Health Organisation and its partner organisations started programmes to eradicate other preventable diseases. Hopes aer high that the following three diseases will have disappeared by 2020 at the latest
