Wat bang kung, Samut Songkhram

Now we’re in the area of Wat bang kung. Wat Bang Kung is Tambon bang kung, amphoe bang kon tee in Samut Songkhram province. It was built in Ayudhaya Period, more than 200 years ago. Wat Bang Kung is in the same area of Bang Kung Camp. This camp is an historical important place as it was the navy camp of King Somdet Phra Chao Ekkathatthat call “Khay Bang Kung”. And in 1768 it was the camp of king Taksin during an attacked by the Burmese army. After the war was abandoned for almost 200 years until in 1976 it was developed by the Ministry of Education. At present, the temple is used to keep the old pharmacopoeia.
The main attraction of the temple is the chapel overgrown by a very large tree. Wat Bang Kung is famous for the small chapel that is completely enclosed within the roots of a banyan tree. It is almost like the tree itself is the pillars of the temple and that without the roots the chapel would fall down. You can also go inside to pay respect to the Buddha image. The temple is known as Bot Prok Pho. Inside the chapel, there is a large Buddha statue that locals called Luang Pho nin ma nee or Luang Pho dam. And there are depicting of the story of Lord Buddha's life. The chapel has the banyan tree covered is one of unseen Thailand.
Next to the chapel are the two rows of muaythai statues, there are also statues of soldiers in the dress of the 18th century amid cannons and bushes cut into the shape of horses. And in the middle, there is a statue of king Taksin. The King of Thonburi Period.
