We did not observe any significant difference in survival rates among the tested media; however we recommend using sphagnum as the potting material, because with this water-holding material we easily obtained an integrated root system grown deeply into the medium. The tightly formed root system as plants grown in sphagnum was observed after an 8-week growth period (data not shown). This type of structure makes the plant easier to handle when fastened to the tree-fern-fiber plaque for further growth or exhibition.
