One of the primary reasons communities invest in headquarter hotels is that
they are widely viewed as being critical to attracting conventions. North
America’s convention market is competitive to say the least. Among those
who have gone further, labeling is as grossly over built are Jameson (2006)
and Sanders (2005a). In such a market facilities need every advantage they
can get to attract events. An adequate supply of hotel rooms adjacent to
the convention center is seen as a must have amenity. Many of the PPP’s
to develop lodging properties are driven by the desire to make an existing
convention center more marketable.
