Dear Toon
We understand that it is your intention that you and Matthew should be married next January and we are writing to highlight various aspects that you and Matthew do not appear to have considered.
1. Once you marry you should live together. Is it your intention that you live in the UK? If it is have you given any thought as to how you will gain entry into the UK because of the strict immigration laws?
2. Matthew would not be able to live in Thailand because he cannot speak the language, would not be able to be employed and would have to give up his pension rights in the UK.
3. If you are able to get entry into the UK would you be able to settle considering the different climate, culture and the fact you will be away from family and friends?
4. Although Matthew has employment in the UK he does not earn sufficient monies to support you and pay everyday expenses such as rent, rates, food, clothing etc unless you were also in work. Additionally, you would need to be able to speak fluent English to achieve this.
5. If you wanted to make return visits to Thailand who would pay for the cost of the air fares etc?
6. Would you be happy to leave your 13 year old daughter in Thailand as it is unlikely that she would be able to gain entry into the UK and certainly not on a permanent basis?
7. If you were unable to get authority to reside permanently in the UK Matthew would not be able to support you in Thailand as he would have his own financial commitments and responsibilities here.
8. The amount Matthew earns is limited and does not give him scope to provide further monies over and above his own day to day living.
9.You have asked Matthew to send direct to your bank account £1000 a month for the next 4 months. With his present income this would not leave him sufficient money to cover his day to day expenses here without some difficulty.
Whilst we do not want to interfere with Matthew's and your lives we do think it is extremely important that you both take notice of these points we have made before you make any commitment to marry. We would not want either of you to live to regret a decision taken in haste and without proper consideration.
It is purely a matter of finances which Matthew could not meet if he had to fulfill all these obligations.
Kind Regards
Chris & Brenda Burt
