An 8.6 magnitude earthquake off northern Indonesia on Wednesday fortunately did not result in a repeat of the December 2004 incident that claimed the lives of 230,000 people.
Damage was light largely because giant waves never came, and by most accounts the warning system but in place for such incidents worked well and limited the casualty list to just five - two of which were heart attacks. However, one corporation in the country did not escape the Indonesia quake unscathed, as KFC Thailand had to issue an apology over a Facebook message many considered insensitive.
"Let's hurry home and follow the earthquake news. And don't forget to order your favorite KFC menu," read the message, which was issued as people were being told to evacuate the beaches.
