Background Information
From our prior knowledge of the company and our discussions with the CFO and CIO, we have the following information:
• The client:
Is an SEC client that is also listed on a European Stock Exchange.
Has offices in 10 countries across different continents.
Uses in-house-developed IT applications with multiple interfaces.
• The business rules often change in accordance with the market demands and regulatory requirements.
• Each of the countries has a number of branches. There are more than 100 branches. There are multiple point-of-sale systems in the branches for capturing transactions.
• The branches have a dedicated server that connects with the regional/country and head office servers for financial data exchange. The financial data exchanged includes budgets, financial performance reports, product prices, transfer pricing, promotions, overhead, etc. The regional offices also have accounting applications.
• The head office uses the information from countries and branches for forecasting and negotiating prices for procurement contracts with the suppliers.
