Seobi et al. (2005) reported similar bulk density numbers and a
similar depth distribution pattern for the same treatments. The lower
bulk density of the buffer treatments could probably be due to
abundance of roots and biopores (Mishra et al., 2003; Jiang et al.,
2007) of the permanent vegetation and absence of agricultural tillage
and traffic. Deep roots, addition of organic matter, and diverse
microbial and enzyme activities due to trees and grass species that
were established in 1997 in these areas may have contributed to
observed differences among the treatments which may influence
profile water movement and storage. Since CT-procedures estimate
porosity from macropores and coarse mesopores, the porosity
estimated by bulk density and CT-procedures were different.
