These table show that limitation of each harmonic content all voltage and current. By using VSD for controlling motor, harmonic current content that generate from VSD is mostly exceeded the requirement in Table 2.
To solve the problem of harmonic current at the input port of VSD, harmonic passive filter is usually applied to install at input of VSD. Harmonic passive filter is inductors and capacitors that connect as harmonic current trap based on series resonance frequency. To design the passive filter, data of harmonic contents for each load change are required to calculate the values of capacitor and inductor for each harmonic frequency.
As a necessary understanding for young electrical technologist who has to solve the harmonic current problems and design the solution in the future, the power harmonic solution contents have been set to power electronics course for undergraduate electrical engineering study. The purpose of this paper is to develop experimental kit for understanding how to filter harmonic current at input port of VSD installed three phase motor case. The contents of the VSD generated harmonic content are analyzed for defining the experimental objectives. The objectives are used to define student competencies that they can get from the proposed experimental module. To evaluate the proposed module, it was applied to student experimental classroom for 25 students of diploma on electrical power course. The pretest and posttest sheets were used to student before and after studying by with and without the proposed experimental module. For these results, the students can get achievement learning at 0.05 of significant.
