Lesson VOC 17
Task: Unfold boxes.
Prerequisites: SEN 12, SEN 13
Concept: In this sample lesson, the opposite task from the preceding lesson of W¬ing or breaking down boxes (VOC 16) is performed. After the student can success¬fidly take a flattened box and cause it to be formed into a box shape, the lesson on tap¬ing boxes (VOC 18) should be immediately begun so that functional purpose is given to the activity.
Behavioral Objective: When the student is requested to "please unfold these boxes," he or she will manipulate each flattened box into a box shape with at least one side be¬ing ready for taping at a 9096 accuracy level for 20 trials of five boxes per trial. Materials: Various folded cardboard boxes that can be unfolded into a box-like shape. If any student has performed the folding boxes (VOC 16) lesson, the folded boxes from that activity could be used as materials for this lesson.
Task Analysis:
l. Demonstrate to the student the action involved in taking a folded box and shaping it into a box.
2. Physically guide the student through the process of unfolding a folded box.
3. Continue Step 2, reducing physical guidance until only step-by-step verbal prompting is needed.
4. Continue Step 3, gradually reducing the step-by-step prompting until only the total-task request of "please unfold these boxes" or a similar statement is needed for five sample boxes
5. Guide the student in placing the results of Step 4 into an area where they can be later taped or reinforced.
