7. Conclusion
The block copolymers of poly(BMA-b-GMA) of predetermined
molecular weights with a lower PDI were successfully synthesized
by reverse ATRP. The block copolymer was easily modified
to amine functionality under ambient conditions by using the sulfamic
acid catalyst. After modification ofthe copolymers by tertiary
amine groups, the pigment affinic groups increase, leading to effective
pigment stabilization in paint. The copolymers with different
molecular weights were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated
for their wetting and dispersing ability in solvent-based paints. The
modified copolymers were successfully incorporated in solventbased
paints at 2.5% concentration at different PVCs. Thus, from the
aforementioned results, it can be concluded that modified copolymers
are effective wetting and dispersing agents and can improve
the optical properties of solvent-based paints.
