The antioxidant capacity of the plasma samples was increased
by addition of increasing concentrations of antioxidants chosen
for their physiological importance. Ascorbic and uric acids have
great significance as LMWAs in plasma [9,13,47]. Bilirubin, which
is carried by albumin in the plasma and captured by the liver to
be biotransformed, also contributes significantly to the antioxidant
capacity of plasma ‘‘in vivo’’ [48].
