A lot of the focus about the impact of Gary Kubiak’s arrival as Broncos head coach has been on what it means for quarterback Peyton Manning’s return for the 2015 season.
Kubiak’s offense won’t just be about throwing the ball, however. Whether as coordinator or head coach in Denver, Houston and Baltimore, Kubiak’s offenses have usually featured productive running games including Justin Forsett’s unexpected 1,266 yards for the Ravens in 2014.
C.J. Anderson made his own unexpected splash for the Broncos this season and he’s looking forward to more of the same under Kubiak.
“I have known about his system for a while, and what he accomplished,” Anderson said, via the Denver Post. “One cut downhill and go get it. It fits me and the offense well. It’s always been successful. He knows the team we have and what we can do. I can’t wait to get started working with him.”
If Denver’s offensive line can execute Kubiak’s preferred zone blocking system, Anderson should be just fine running the ball and that would set Manning up to make plays in play action. Or, more precisely, it would set him up to make those plays if he returns for another season in Denver and the prospect of such a running game might help sway Manning in the Broncos’ direction.
