( MMR) is 379 deaths per 100,000live births and 445 deaths per 100,000, respectively. Both numbers are significantly higher than India•s already high national average of 305deaths per 1
00,000 live births. About half of all maternal deaths areattributed to hemorrhage and anemia, both of which can be prevented . And unfortunately, poormaternal health care and in adequate emergency obstetric care put babies at risk, too.
