The country is a popular destination for British tourists and back-packers - and around 2,000 are thought to be in the country at the moment.
So, is it still safe to travel to Thailand?

This morning on Breakfast:
We got some more advice from The Independent's travel writer, Simon Calder.
Simon explained that there are probably thousands more than just 2,000 British travellers in Thailand as most of them are back packers and therefore not registered with the Foreign Office.
British Airways is allowing travellers to postpone their trips - or go to another destination. But that is only for today's travel.
Simon said speaking personally, if he were planning to travel to Thailand today, he'd go ahead with his trip.
