Mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. Corticosteroids inhibit the release of arachidonic acid (a precursor of inflammation mediators ) by inducing lipocortins that inhibit phospholipase A2 [13][14][15][5][4]. Although the exact anti-inflammatory mechanism is unknown, corticosteroids have a wide range of effects on various cell types (including mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes) and mediators (including histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines) involved in inflammation [2][13][14][15][5][4].
