Nurses are increasingly the first point of contact for patients in
primary care settings such as general practice surgeries, community
clinics and walk-in centres. Such roles are likely to continue to
expand. This article discusses diagnosis and management options for
the most common fungal infections and describes clinical situations
that might require further investigation or referral. Accurate
diagnosis is essential for successful therapy and, in all cases, can
provide an opportunity for discussion, reassurance and advice.
