The operations carried out were based on “why-why” philosophy. Here the team
first analyzed the situation and asked “why is this activity being done in this way,
is there any better way to perform the activity?”. Subsequently at each step similar
questions asked led to the final objective, which in this case was to increase
productivity by reducing unwanted operations and by reducing the losses identified.
The facing, drilling and tapping machines are grouped together in one simple
