When this field was applied to the roots, they also
reoriented their growth toward the cathode; however,
some of them stopped growing after the treatment.
Changes in RAM architecture were similar to those in the
former experiment. The cells of the root body invaded the
RC territory. However, a new anomaly was noted in a
region of the RC: some columellar initials failed to divide
(Fig. 4C). The starch granules appeared in their cytoplasm,
which is normally observed only in the derivatives of the
initials. Again, all these changes were absent in roots
from a control experiment.
