Wat Phra That Chedi Luang Temple is located next to Chiang Saen National Museum and is an ancient 88-metre high, bell-shaped, Lanna style principal chedi. The base of Chedi is 24 metre in circumference and it was constructed in 1290 by King Saen Phu, the 3rd ruler of the Lanna kingdom. This temple is the tallest religious Lanna monument in Chiang Rai.
