Small subunits of photosystems I and II
Recently, the plastid genes encoding the PSII subunits J
and L were inactivated. Tobacco DpsbL lines lack a
functional PSII and can be propagated only under
heterotrophic conditions, whereas absence of PSII-J
leads to deregulation of both photosynthetic electron
flow and assembly of the water-splitting complex [15,16].
